Bus operator charged with slashing wife’s throat
WESTERN BUREAU — Clarence Williams, the St James tour bus operator who allegedly slashed his Caucasian wife’s throat, less than a week after moving into their new home in the parish, was on Monday remanded in police custody at least until next Monday, when the case file should be completed.
When the matter was brought before the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate’s Court, the magistrate was told that some statements and the post mortem report were yet to be added to the file.
The case was subsequently set for mention on March 25.
Williams, 36, reportedly slashed his 49 year old wife, Eleanor’s throat at their home at Barrett Hall in the parish on March 2. She was from Boston, USA.
However, Williams has taken issue with the allegations against him. He reportedly told the police that he had left the home on March 2 to visit his son in Kingston and returned at about 12:25 am the following day, to find the garage door open and his wife lying dead on the sofa.
In addition he reportedly told the police, who he contacted after over an hour following the discovery of his dead wife, that her wedding band and a sum of money were missing.
But the wedding band was later discovered inside a jewellery box in the home and J$30,000 and US$37 was recovered from a Mark II motor car the couple owned.
In addition to those discrepancies in Williams’ story, the police have questioned why the accused took over an hour to contact them.
