but you wanna hear some seriously great drums? listen to Mike Portnoy, Neil Pert, Buddy Rich, Gene Krupa, Keith Moon, but mostly the first two I mentioned, they are insane

still do, not as often as I used to, but I bang out on the ol set every once in awhile. was never in a band though, by the time people started asking me to be in their bands, I had already started focusing on basketball

 

could always be a famous basketball drummer.

 

Go see godsmack in concert, if sully plays the drums, he is fucking amazing (he's a good old southie boy)

oh, and OP: I've heard a lot of great drummers over the years too, some REALLY good local ones, I'll have too see if I can remember their names or find some audio or something. I always liked Tre Cool too, but he rarely had solos

Best I ever heard was Gene Krupa, you guys probably don't know who the fuck I'm talking about, but some of the other oldies will. He was way ahead of his time, and even a little before mine.

the drum solo at the begining is pretty damn cool

 

yea, usually it takes like 2-3 years to find out how good you are. that's usually right around when everything clicks, I was lucky enough to have a great teacher who let me play my way. just keep at it man

I'm rather partial to double bass in power metal, drummer (I don't know his name) for Iced Earth is pretty good.

 

Baller already mentioned most of the great drummers. I'd have to throw in Ron Bushy of Iron Butterfly and his solo on In-A-Gadda Da-Vida, but the song is 18 minutes long.
