Economics Nobel prize 2023:
She uncovered key drivers of gender differences in the labour market
https://www.nobelprize.org/prizes/economic-sciences/2023/press-release/

This year’s Laureate in the Economic Sciences, Claudia Goldin, provided the first comprehensive account of women’s earnings and labour market participation through the centuries. Her research reveals the causes of change, as well as the main sources of the remaining gender gap.

The economic noble prize winner in 2024:
https://www.nobelprize.org/prizes/economic-sciences/2024/press-release/

This year’s laureates in the economic sciences – Daron Acemoglu, Simon Johnson and James Robinson – have demonstrated the importance of societal institutions for a country’s prosperity. Societies with a poor rule of law and institutions that exploit the population do not generate growth or change for the better. The laureates’ research helps us understand why.

When Europeans colonised large parts of the globe, the institutions in those societies changed. This was sometimes dramatic, but did not occur in the same way everywhere. In some places the aim was to exploit the indigenous population and extract resources for the colonisers’ benefit. In others, the colonisers formed inclusive political and economic systems for the long-term benefit of European migrants.

Thanks very much for the fave! Also, I read about the dire wolf, and I thought it was probably not a good idea to re-create it, and I learned a lot from your discussion of it above. It really is not right to create creatures that have no place in the world now, no habitat or pack to rely on, or possibility of procreating. It's not natural. And it's not right to create creatures and then take no responsibility for them. So I thank you for your post, and totally agree with it!
